Mladá Boleslav, 26 May 2025 – The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship came to a close yesterday with the United States national team defeating the Swiss team 1:0 in the final, held in Stockholm. Immediately after the game, Maren Gräf, Škoda Auto Board Member for People and Culture, presented the Most Valuable Player trophy to the Swiss goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni. Škoda Design, which has been responsible for creating the trophy since 2018, introduced a brand-new design this year, inspired by the carmaker’s Modern Solid design language. Škoda Auto has been the official main sponsor of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship for a record 32 years. This year, Škoda used the event as a platform to celebrate the world premiere of the new Enyaq RS and Enyaq Coupé RS.

“The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is a highlight of the sporting calendar – in the Czech Republic, where ice hockey is the national sport, and in many other countries. As the main partner, vehicle provider and designer of the MVP trophy, we once again enjoyed being at the heart of the action, surrounded by passionate international fans who created an incredible and exciting atmosphere. Škoda Auto has supported the championship since 1992, initially as a mobility partner, and holds the Guinness World Record for the longest main sponsorship of any world sports event. This time, we marked the occasion by showcasing at the arenas our latest RS models – the sporty, top-of-the-range versions of our new all-electric Enyaq family.”

A world premiere and a sustainable fleet for the organisers
This year, Škoda used the event as a platform to unveil its latest RS models – the new Enyaq RS and Enyaq Coupé RS – which, alongside the Elroq RS, represent the fastest-accelerating models in the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker’s line-up. Škoda also provided the organisers with a fleet of 45 electrified vehicles, including 30 fully electric Elroq and Enyaq models and 15 plug-in hybrid Kodiaq iV and Superb Combi iV vehicles.

A new trophy inspired by modern design, natural forms and historical heritage
As part of Škoda Auto’s long-standing commitment to the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Škoda Design has been responsible for creating the trophy for the Most Valuable Player since 2018. This year, the trophy was given a completely new form. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s Modern Solid design language, the new hand-blown trophy combines organically flowing shapes with modern, sharply cut facets.

Crafted from Czech crystal glass, the trophy, which is 36.5 cm tall and weighs 10 kg, pays tribute to the long-standing and internationally renowned Czech tradition of glassmaking and precision craftsmanship. Its distinctive green hue reflects Škoda’s current corporate identity while also serving as a subtle nod to the company’s 130-year heritage. The glassmakers at Lasvit produced the signature Škoda emerald shade through a challenging colouring process.

32-year main partnership with the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
This year, the sports event drew a total of approximately 490,000 spectators across the Swedish and Danish venues. In both host cities, Stockholm and Herning, fans flocked to the Škoda fan zones, taking the opportunity to explore Škoda vehicles and enjoy a lively entertainment programme – from mini-games to karaoke sessions in a specially equipped Elroq.
